A transcript is stuck or failed

How long is too long, what to do about a failed job, and when to just retry.

Is it actually stuck?

Processing normally takes about a quarter of the recording length, and longer with speaker labels switched on. A two-hour recording sitting at Processing after twenty minutes is behaving normally. The same file after three hours is not.

  1. 1Refresh the page. The status sometimes lags behind the work, and a refresh occasionally reveals a transcript that has been ready for a while.
  2. 2Look at the status itself. Uploading means the file is still leaving your device — that is your connection, not our processing.
  3. 3Give it the estimate above, then a bit more if the file is long.
  4. 4If it has clearly overrun, retry it. The uploaded file is kept, so retrying does not mean uploading again.

When it says Failed

A failure is usually the audio rather than the service. Play the file locally — if it will not play, or plays as silence, that explains it. Files where the microphone was muted or never granted permission are a common case and produce an empty result rather than a helpful error.

重要

A failed job does not count against your daily limit, and you are not charged for it. Retry freely.

If the same file fails twice, contact us with its name and roughly when you uploaded it. Do not delete it first — we can look at the job while it is still there.
