She vets companies' data practices, accuracy levels, and liability protections before testing new tools. "There are still unknown risks with these emerging technologies. It pays to be careful."

AI threatens jobs in finance, medicine, law, education and more. New McKinsey research suggests 30% of activities in 60% of occupations could be automated.
Blue-collar jobs thought safe from automation continue to be impacted as well. Factories now utilize sophisticated robots working tirelessly without breaks, benefits, or wages. Truck drivers watch warily as autonomous vehicles pilot commercial routes. Amazon"s cashier-less stores portend retail jobs disappearing. "I don"t know if there will be anything left for my kids" generation to do," muses warehouse worker Roy Nichols. "Maybe only coders and engineers will still have jobs someday."
Proponents argue that past automation ultimately created more new jobs than it destroyed. But that was over generations, not years or even months. The unprecedented pace of change today raises concerns that workers and institutions cannot adapt quickly enough. How society will function if swathes of people lose their livelihoods to automation remains unclear. "Taking online courses in data science and analytics has made me much more marketable," explains project manager Jenna Park. She became concerned that AI would take over elements of her job, so acquired new skills to remain competitive. "Even if my current role evolves, I'm confident I can transition into a more technical position," Park says.
Academic institutions also face pressure to modernize curricula across disciplines. "We've integrated data literacy, computational thinking, and AI ethics into all our programs," explains McKinley College president Dr. Rasheem Douglas. "These touch every industry, so graduating students who understand these tools is crucial."
Some argue reskilling initiatives should target those most vulnerable to automation's disruptions first. "Coal miners may require more urgent retraining than computer engineers," points out labor organizer Diego Sanchez. "We must prioritize those facing structural barriers to accessing education on short timelines."
Policy interventions may prove necessary as well. "Tax credits helped workers afford retraining when manufacturing moved offshore," notes senator Claudia Brooks, advocating similar incentives today. "Proactive labor policies can smooth the transition."
Creativity and flexibility will be at a premium in the workplaces of tomorrow. "I advise young people to gain soft skills like design thinking, communication, and entrepreneurial mindsets," says futurist Alex Taylor. "These will enable workers to adapt as specific technical skills become obsolete."
